People who are experiencing homelessness deserve the same basic dignity as everyone else. We must address conditions at emergency shelters and at motels/apartments leased by the city.
We can do this by:
- Aiming for emergency shelter stays of 21 days or less. We need to set aggressive targets to prevent people from slipping into chronic homelessness.
- Ensuring that any new shelters should be completely convertible to second-stage or supportive housing.
- Focusing investments on housing first projects and getting people matched with available housing in the shortest timeframe possible.
